Trigger Warning: Anxiety and Depression

ICONIC Babe Scott McGlynn is an author, LGBT Activist, podcast host and online lifestyle creator.

We talked to Scott about mental health and being a champion for men in the skincare and makeup space!

Scott McGlynn

1. What does self-love mean to you?

Self-love to me means taking 15 minutes out of your day for yourself. Whether that’s doing a face mask or just looking in the mirror and telling yourself - you are amazing.

2. When did you find your passion and love for skincare?

I literally grew up nicking my mum’s skincare - I remember getting my first job and saving up just to buy skincare products! I have always loved skincare.

3. Thoughts on men wearing makeup?

I don’t understand what the big deal is! I’ve always been into makeup just like skincare. I am very comfortable as a man who wears makeup - I think we should all embrace it!

4. What are your thoughts on men's mental health?

It is such an important topic for me. I work with many mental health charities and I myself suffer from anxiety and depression. It’s so important we’re there for each other and talk about mental health.

5. How to love yourself in your own skin?

I have always had acne prone skin, I’m 33 now and still get acne, so it took a long time to love myself and love my skin. But I found so much comfort in this community online, who have skin like mine and embrace it! I learned through others to embrace myself and my skin.

6. How do you practice self-love daily – especially on the days it feels tough?

I take 10 minutes in the morning, lying in bed, thinking how grateful I am for this new day. Even when it all feels too much, practicing gratitude can change my whole mindset.

7. What are you favourite mantras / motivational quotes?

If you don't ask, you don’t get!

&

Don’t tell people your dreams- show them!

It’s never been more important to ASK FOR HELP if you feel you need it. Don’t suffer alone!
