Trigger Warning: Eating Disorder and Diet Culture

ICONIC Babe Alex Light is a social media influencer and self-love advocate, she speaks to thousands of women daily about how to become your own biggest fan!

We talked to Alex about becoming a champion for body positivity and how to love yourself in your own skin!

1. What does self-love mean to you?

Self-love is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. We live in a world that thrives off women’s insecurities and encourages self-loathing. Self-love is the ultimate revolutionary act, it’s like putting a middle finger up to antiquated and patriarchal ideals.

2. How do you practice self-love daily?

I make sure to nourish my body with delicious food, I move my body in a joyful way, I look after my skin…and I just love indulging in as much me-time as I possibly can!

3. What are your go-to things to lift your mood?

I have a few! I love playing with makeup and experimenting with new makeup looks. I also recently adopted a dog! I find when I take her on a nice, long walk it really helps clear my mind and improve my mood. She has already added so much joy to my life!

4. Why did you start championing body positivity?

After recovering from an eating disorder, I realised that being a voice for others was really important to me. I realised this was something I was incredibly passionate about and I decided to commit my time to helping other women whose life may also be affected by an eating disorder or diet culture.

5. Thoughts on diet culture?

Losing weight is NOT your sole purpose in life. Diet culture has such a negative and detrimental effect on our mental health, it’s really important to pull back and look at the bigger picture and think about what really does deserve our time and energy.

6. Favourite mantras or motivational quotes?

Nobody is going to stand up at your funeral and say, “Wow she had a small waist and a big thigh gap”! It helps remind me that we will never be remembered for how we looked; we will be remembered for how we were on the inside.

It’s never been more important to ASK FOR HELP if you feel you need it. Don’t suffer alone!
